Beaches
Since I was a child beaches have been a great love for me. My mother named me for the sand as she lay on her tummy at eight months pregnant, spelling my name in an unusual way. My parents would drive a long distance from inland Northern California to Santa Cruz Beach, bring a picnic, and swim, and fish from the pier or from the shore. My brother and I body-surfed in the frigid water until our knuckles were blue, and we shivered with the cold. The Beach Boys played on the radio on the drive home, and Gidget was on TV.
I’m a bit of a pirate as life has taken me to live and visit faraway places which all seem to have plenty of sand and seawater. I have lived in Hawaii, on Nantucket Island, and now in Newport Beach, California. These beach communities have inspired the artist spirit within me as I have a joy inside me seeing people drawn to the healing, happy feelings of the sand and water and sunshine. I especially enjoy seeing children playing, as it reminds me of the time I had with my brother when we were young.
